What's New

Dear room 8 families,

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday spent with family and friends. I had a fantastic holiday myself! It all started with our class celebration. It was such a special day! Thank you to all the parents who contributed their time and talents to make a memory for our kiddos that will last a lifetime. I also want to thank everyone for contributing to such a generous class gift for me. I already used some of it at the after Christmas sales! I felt showered with love by all the thoughtful gifts and sweet cards that poured in throughout the week. With a heart full of gratitude, THANK YOU.

Although the holiday break was excellent, it is so great to be back in school! I am excited to begin our new unit “Journeys”. We will be learning all about this outstanding country of ours. This week, we will be readingTar Beachby Faith Ringgold. This piece of literature will be our gateway into learning about different types of homes and communities. Students will also create beautiful artwork inspired from the book that will be displayed at the winter art gallery. The winter art gallery will be held in the MATES MPR on Thursday, January 26th.

I am looking for a few items needed to create the cover of each students’ Journey notebook.

~ maps that you will not need back

~ travel section of the newspaper

           ~ travel magazines

If you have any of these items on hand please send them in by Friday.

Thank you as always for your continued support. You are such a vital part of your child’s education and I am so appreciative of all that you do.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2012!

Love,

Miss Warner

I am so excited to be your child’s teacher! I look at our class as a family and I can’t wait to see everyone grow and learn together this year. Our first day went very smoothly and everyone is extremely motivated and eager to learn.  Here is a brief overview of what we will be studying in the next couple of weeks:

Social Studies – Friendship

Geology – Layers of the Earth, 3 types of rocks, and soil

Core Value- Have courage to do what’s right.

Math – Patterns, Numbers, Graphing, and Clocks

Phonics & Spelling – reviewing short vowel sounds

There are some bookkeeping items that I’d like to go over to help start the year off right. Please be sure your child has a backpack this week and begin reinforcing the importance of bringing the backpack to school with your child every day. This way homework folders and any other important papers, projects etc. will always have a place to go.  Supplies for our classroom are listed on the back of this letter.  Please do not label any of the supplies except the water color paints. Supplies are not a requirement but are purely on a donation basis.

I am looking forward to a wonderful

year filled with lots of learning!
