February
Language Arts:
We will continue reading class books; Ben and Me and Gulliver's Stories. We will focus on vocabulary, and reading comprehension strategies of main idea , details and themes. We will finish up learning about writing summaries of non-fiction material and start learning about Response to Lititure. The Cal. State writing test will be March 6th.
Math:
We will be focusing on multiplication, division, congruent figures, linerar function, word problems with fractions, equivalent fractions, capacity, mass and weight . I am offering a math lab on Thursdays for 2:45- 3:30. I will be reviewing the concepts that were taught that week. We are taking our math tests on the ipod responders, however the children are also doing a written test so that they can correct it if they need to. The responders give me instant results that I can then teach from. "Got to Love Technology!"
Science:
We are wrapping up electricity and our test is on Wed., Feb. 8th. Then we will learn about magnets, and electro magnets.
Social Studies
We will continue learning about the California mission chain while playing a mission simulation. Each child will write a mission report. As a culminating activity we will be building our missions in class. If the children would like to bring in small plants, flowers, crosses or other decorations for their missions they can when we start building the missions. They can be purchased from Joanne's or Michael's. Please do not purchase the mission kit. This is taking long then anticipated so we will not be building the missions until the end of the month.
Reminders
Children must come dressed in a Mates uniform, this includes pants and sweat shirts.
