Language Arts
This week we focused on the letter Hh. The students read short words beginning with Hh. They also came up with many words and pictures for their ABC Dictionaries. Our word this week was “here”. We used this word in our journal writing as well as in our new books, Bears, Bears, Bears.
We continued learning about bears as part of our Winter Animals unit. Last week we discussed the difference between real and pretend bears. The students made their own books all about bears! They used their sight words, practiced handwriting, and phonetic spelling. They wrote real facts in the book about polar bears, panda bears, and grizzly bears.
Math
Thank you for all of the goodies for our 100th Day of School celebration! A BIG THANK YOU to all of the helpers! The students had a great time counting, eating, and making 100th Day crafts! We practiced counting by dimes (10’s) too! Please continue working on number recognition to 20 and number writing. The students also colored a polar bear page. They had to find all of the triangles among many other similar looking shapes! We played a dice game and they practiced adding the two dice together.
Letter of the Week: Our Letter of the Week next week will be the letter Vv. Please encourage your child to find things around the house that begin with the /v/ sound. As much as the students would like to share stuffed animals with names beginning with the Letter of the Week, I encourage them to bring only items that begin with the Letter of the Week. J
Star of the Week: We will not have a STAR next week.
Reminders: Homework now includes a weekly reading journal. Please see the instructions on the blue paper in your child’s Homework Folder. The rest of the homework is designed for your child to work on independently, but please help guide them as needed.
