   September 15 through 19, 2008
        Write letter reflecting on what you discovered doing your timeline about
        you as a reader, writer and speaker.  Directions are on the back of the
        timeline instructions from last week.  (due session 3)
 
        Journal Entry #2 (due first session next week)
            Compare the film CHARLY with "Flowers for Algernon"

       Check out a copy of OF MICE and MEN by John Steinbeck.

       Vocabulary: quiz on words from OF MICE and MEN next week.


   September 8 through 12, 2008
        Turn in your Personal Literay Timeline by your last session.
        Create your personal reading goals for this trimester.
        Create your vocabulary tree based on the root chronos.

         Do journal entries relating to "Flowers for Algernon" as assigned:
               Testing
               Special People
               Bullying / Laughing at others
               
         Think of an anecdote (oral) to share when you turn in your timeline.

   September 2 through 5, 2008

READ DAILY at home for 1/2 hour in your personal choice "yummy" book.

         Session One: Finish your bullet style brainstorm for your literacy timeline with
                      memories of reading, writing and speaking in 7th and 6th grades.
                      Use your spiral notebook for this.

        Session Two: Finish your bullet style brainstorm for 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and first grades.

        Session Three: Create 9 graphics for your literacy timeline.

    Wecome to eighth grade!

     1. Bring your personal "yummy" book to class daily.
     2. Bring your emergency card.
     3. Write the letter to me (due first session next week).
     4. Assemble your supplies:
          personal reading book (yummy book)
          spiral notebook dedicated to English only notes
          pencils
          paper
          stickies
          glue stick/scissors
          markers/ colored pencils
          1" binder with three dividers (optional)
           4" x 6" notecards (helpful for vocabulary)
