FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
What is the most important rule? Be nice. To everyone. Back to School Night is September 9th. It starts at 6:30 pm. Hope to see you there! What supplies do I need for math class? pencils with erasers correcting pen (purple, red, green, etc.) highlighter binder or folder with 5 sections--it can be one that you are already using for another class binder paper graph paper 12" ruler whiteboard marker calculator (preferably in the TI-30x family--very helpful but not required prized or extra supplies for class (extra credit--due by September 4th) Check the website for the homework. Ask me (Ms. Peets) and/or a friend what class work was missed. Look on the wall in the front of the room for any handouts that you may not have received. Grades are calculated as follows: Tests and quizzes are worth 40% of your grade. Homework and classwork is worth 25% of your grade. Class time use, conduct, and participation is worth 15% of your grade. Your independent project is worth 15% of your grade. And finally, notes, organization, and preparedness is worth 5% of your grade. Each group test is taken in groups of 3 to 5 students. Everybody in the group completes a test. They are clipped together and handed in at the end of the testing period. I correct one of the tests for the group. Each person in the group receives that grade. Group tests are followed by individual tests. If you receive a higher grade on the individual test, your group test score is replaced by your individual test score (giving you two of the individual test scores). If, on the other hand, you receive a lower grade on the individual test, you keep both the group and individual test scores. Tell me about testing out of homework. You have the ability to test out of homework but this does not go under the test/quizzes category. Instead, a pass acts as a homework completion. You still must pay attention to lessons and notes must be taken in class every day. You may not test out of classwork. Tests are given Monday during lunch for Chiweenies and Half Eaten Potato People. Tests are given Tuesday during lunch for Peets-a and Ginger Ninjas. Yes, for partial credit. The later the assignment, the less credit given. How do I get a good grade in the class time use, conduct, and participation category? If you test out of homework or complete it in advance, you must still use your class time well— meaning bring your math independent project or extra credit work to class. You need to ask and answer questions in class, work well with your partners…and of course, behave. ☺ Tell me about the Independent Project. You must complete one independent project every trimester. It will take you several hours so do not wait until the end of the trimester. You may complete a second one for extra credit. You should bring this to class every day in case you finish your work early. I have a list of potential projects for you to choose from or you can come up with a math related project on you own (as long as you run it by me first). How do I get a good grade in the notes, organization, and preparedness category? You must take notes on the math lesson every class—checked periodically. You need to file your work so that it can be found easily upon request. You need to have your supplies with you every day —meaning you need a working pencil, a correcting pen, your homework, paper and the rest of your supplies EVERY day. What do I do if I need to go to the bathroom during math class? Try to wait until I am not teaching a lesson or going over a concept. Look to see if the bathroom pass is hanging on the hook in the front of the room. Then, sign out, take the bathroom pass, and go. There is a drinking fountain in the front of the classroom. Ask for it. If you do not understand something during class, come in before or after school for help. If you need to meet during lunch or recess, set up an appointment with me (Ms. Peets). I am more than happy to help and it usually does not take too long. Where should I look if I lose something in room 36? First you should look in the lost and found in the back of the room. Next, you should look in the school lost and found.
