About The Coordinator

Welcome! My name is Alison Miller and I am the Performing Arts Magnet
Coordinator. I am also the facitlitator for the Performing Arts Department
and serve on the Instructional Leadership Team. Throughout the school year
I am also in charge of many special events such as High School Information
Night, The World's Fair, and Back To School Night.

In terms of my training and educational background, I have a wide range of
experiences which I bring to Millikan Middle School. I received my B.A. in
Theater Arts from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. I also
had the opportunity to study acting for one year with an American program
affiliated with The Royal Academy of Arts in London, England. I received my
Masters in Educational Theater from New York University. During my time at
NYU, I had the wonderful opportunity to travel into the NYC schools as an
artist-in-Residence. Finally, I have worked as a professional
actress/commedienne and studied comedy/improv with Second City in Chicago.

In terms of my teaching experience, I have had the opportunity to work in
both private and public schools and with multiple grade levels. Some
highlights of my career include; directing high school musicals, teaching
gifted and talented programs, creating teacher enrichment programs, coaching
an award winning Odyssey of The Mind team, teaching middle school Language
arts and drama, and facilitating community activism projects. I am
passionate about working with kids at any level and love seeing the light
bulbs go off in young minds.

I have been at Millikan for four and half years and cherish my role as the
Magnet Coordinator. I am almost always available for parent, student and
community meetings. I take an active role in many of the parent assocations
and serve on various committees. I absolutely love being a part of the
Millikan Middle School community. It is an honor to work with such creative
students, dynamic faculty, and dedicated parent community.

My door is always open so feel free to stop by and say, "hello". If you
have any questions and need to contact me right away, please do not
hesitate to email me at ajm0098@lausd.net.
