I received my B.A. degree from the University of California at Berkeley with
a degree in anthropology and archaeology. I have a Masters in Education,
specializing in Multicultural education and gifted instruction. I hold a
CLAD certified and clear-teaching credential. I have received teaching
certificates of recognition and appreciation from U.S. Senator Barbara
Boxer, U.S. House of Representative Howard L. Berman, Councilmember Michael
Feuer, and Councilmember Wendy Greuel. Before becoming a teacher at Millikan
I worked as an archaeologist for the U.C. Berkeley outreach program. I have
taught history at Millikan since 2000. My love for history and culture stems
from being raised as an Air Force “brat” who moved from country to country
every two to three years.
My goal for all history classes is to bring history alive for my students. I
believe that it is vital that students see their place in history today and
how the lives and events of others have created the world that we live in. I
strive to teach students to look at history as a way to become active
citizens and responsible people within their community. I love to use songs,
plays, reenactments, and creative projects to inspire and motivate my
students to become life long lovers of history. I encourage students to
always ask questions and take chances in class. I want all of my students to
have ownership in their education and what they are being taught. My
classroom is a collaborative and cooperative environment that respects all
opinions and discussions.
