Monte Vista University
An Overview
Fourth grade students have an amazing opportunity to be part of Monte Vista University (MVU) this year. This is an independent
reading program in which students earn their bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees by reading, and completing "coursework"
throughout the year. This motivating program allows students to become better readers, stronger writers, and creative thinkers.
All students will earn their bachelor’s degree by June.
This includes reading nine book, and completing four letters, four projects, and
one poetry presentation.
. Each student needs to
complete one book and one project or letter every 3-4 weeks to be on target for earning
his or her
bachelor degree by the end of the school year.
Students will be given time at home and in class to work on these requirements.
MVU also offers graduate level degrees.
Many students will go on to complete their
master’s and doctorate degrees! MVU allows
students to move beyond
the basic requirements and work toward these
higher-level goals. MVU requirements and directions
are detailed in your child’s MVU binder. Please take time to look over this
material with your son or daughter
and help him or her set MVU
goals for the year.
Students are absolutely thrilled when they
graduate! Their growth as a reader
will be tremendous, and they will love
inviting you to
their graduation ceremony—complete with cap, gown,
and diploma.

they enter Monte Vista University. It will be an amazing year like no
other!
Bachelor's Degree
In order to receive a Bachelor's Degree, you must read 8 books with different genres, and complete 4 projects and 4 book club letters. You must also read 1 poetry book, and complete the poetry presentation.

Master's Degree:
In order to receive a Master's Degree, you must complete an Information book and project, a Topic Study, Biography Presentation, and an Author's Study.

In order to receive a Doctorate Degree, you must read and complete a California Passport, work on a Theme Study, and finish with a Reflection Letter.
