Class Management

All class rules are established at the beginning of the school year with my
students. We develop these rules together and then sign a contract agreeing
to follow them. Learning in the classroom can only take place with the
cooperation of the teacher, parents and students. If a student is
disruptive, not only does it take away from his/her learning; it also
takes away vital learning time from each child in the classroom.

I believe that positive reinforcement is the best way to achieve a desired behavior,
therefore I am always on the lookout for positive and responsible behavior. I let
my students know when I think they are making good choices and keeping on task
with "GOTCHA" tickets. These tickets may be used to purchase a prize from the treasure
box, a day in a beach chair during Reading, A day at the beach- homework pass, etc..,

We also celebrate appropriate behavior as a group. When the class as a whole receives a
compliment or does a nice job, a smile will be added to the class chart. When the chart is
completed, we will celebrate with a “Reward Party”. The class will decide what to do for the party.
Parties may be watching a movie, an extra recess, or game time.

Consequences:
If a student chooses to break a rule, there are consequences. Logical consequences are
used whenever possible.

I will be using a 3-step discipline program in my classroom.

Careful of Rough Waters = Verbal Warning
You're caught in a Rip Tide = Stop and think - student looses recess time
Wipe-out = 3rd warning - note or phone call home

Homework Club - Students with no missing, incomplete or late work for the month
will qualify for a special treat at the end of the month (McDonald's McFlurry, Krispy Kreme)

Weekly Drawing - Students that have no warnings of rough waters each week will have the
opportunity to participate in a weekly drawing for the treasure box.
