LITERATURE NEWS
We are learning about Native Americans, and will be making a special folk tale book.

We are now the proud owners of a class set of Harry Potter books,
The Sorcerer's Stone
, the first volume.  These are great books for inspiring students to read, read, read!
Speaking of reading, don't forget to ask to see your child's
Reading Log.  Students are asked to read 45 minutes each night, fill in the Reading Log and get parent signatures.

 NEWS for FIFTH GRADE PARENTS!

We need to begin raising funds for Science Camp for next year, 6th grade.  Any ideas?

  IMPORTANT SCHOOL EVENTS

Every Friday Night:  BIG BINGO - 6:30 PM (doors open at 5 pm - low cost dinner).  Bingo starts at 6:30 pm.  We need parents to sell special bingo cards, called Flash, and also snacks.  Please talk to your friends and get a group together to volunteer to work one Friday night a month. You will receive service hours for your time, but more importantly, if Big Bingo works at MHT, it will allow us to assist many, many families with scholarship help.

 CLASSROOM INFORMATION

Food Pantry:  Fifth grade hopes to provide whatever help the Pantry needs, as a demonstration of Christ's love on earth, and as a clear example of providing love for our neighbors.  The director has told us that their current needs include:
  1. canned foods
  2. large brown paper grocery bags
  3. Pantry needs are continuous, and become more important as the weather gets colder and jobs are lost.  Families are only able to get a bag of groceries once every two weeks.  So, please send in paper bags and groceries every week!  Thanks so much for your generous support!
Box Tops: Please remember to cut out box tops and send them to school. For each box top that you turn in, the school gets 10 cents. At the end of each month the class with the most box tops earns one day of free dress.  Make it a family project!

Tuesday Mass:  Our school goes together to mass on Tuesday mornings.  We do not have morning assembly that day, and leave right at 7:59 for mass.  Please be on time, and if possible, get you child to bring their backpacks to class before we go!

PowerPoints:  Your students will be learning to use PowerPoint and will be completing assignments by doing their own slide shows.  Please make sure you have a computer available at home, or at a friend's, so your child can meet their due dates when they come up!
