Week of February 6th, 2012
Dear Parents,
Last week we ended our Catholic Schools Week celebration and it was
truly a special time for all. We are in the home stretch before we have a
week off next week, and I know that the whole class is looking forward to it!
I also wanted to apologize for having to cancel the meeting last Thursday
about the 8th grade dinner dance. My twins both had horrible ear infections,
along with high fevers and I had to get home to them right away. I appreciate
all of your kind thoughts and words while they were sick, it made my husband
and I feel so loved and cared for. I am truly blessed to have such a great
class! Thank you for letting them be a part of our school and community.
The time has approached us to celebrate Valentine's Day as a class
and I would like to have a party with the students in class on Friday
February 10th. All students are welcome to bring in Valentine's and goodies
for the class. If you have any questions about the party please feel free to
speak with me after school or email me directly. Please note that treats and
drinks can be brought in for service hours. If you would like to know what
our class needs please feel free to email Janet Tabuno or myself.
Many parents did not respond to the email regarding the committees. I
understand that you would like to know some more information about the dinner
dance prior to signing up and again I am sorry for the meeting having to be
canceled. I know that this is last minute however I would like to schedule a
meeting this Thursday at 6:30 in the 7th grade classroom. This will at least
allow all parents to ask their questions and sign up for what they would like
to work on.
On another note, I have heard that many parents do not want to participate in
this event because they either do not want to participate, or they want to
receive service hours for it. I would just like to make it clear, that I
spoke with the principal and vice-principal and parents DO NOT receive
service hours for this event, only for the donations that are contributed
towards the event. It is part of your school contract and is noted that ALL
seventh grade parents need to attend and participate in the venue. The ONLY
way you can receive service hours is if you spend $35 or more, as stated in
our school handbook. If you have any further questions about this, please
feel free to speak with me directly or the front office if needed.
*PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR NEXT MEETING IS GOING TO BE HELD ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY
9th AT 6:30 IN THE CLASSROOM.*
This week the students will be working on their African American
Essay/Project. Each student has chosen a different individual on who they
would like to focus on. The students needed to make sure that the person made
an influential difference on their local or world community, playing
basketball was not okay. There are 27 different individuals that were chosen
and I am looking forward to learning more about them. The final essay, power
point and index card will be due February 24th! Please note that a majority
of this work will be done in class, however they made need to finish it next
week at home when they are on break.
I hope that you all have a great week and enjoy the next couple of
days with the warm weather. Hope to see you all at the meeting on Thursday.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jordan
