Dear Parents,
Life in the Kindergarten will now pick up! We started the New Year the our Kindergarten with our ice cream rubric. In all written work from now on this will be the rubric we will use. Number 1 means thay are just starting to write. That's like getting a small cone with no ice cream in it. Number 2 means they are making food progress but not yet touching the lines. That's like getting a small dish of ice cream. Nunber 3 means they are starting to write correctly, touching the lines etc. That's like getting a big cone with two big scoops of ice cream. Number 4 means they are ready for First Grade in all writing. That's like getting a banana split. We are learning to say 'good, better, best, never let it rest until your good is better and the better is best".
In math we want all the children to know how to write the numbers 1 to 9 putting on the touch points. We will need these for addition and subtraction later in the year. Please check you child for backwward numbers. Make them practice until they can do it right all the time.
The children received their Spot Books and their Journals. We will use these to begin learning how to write creative stories. Invite your child to write a sentence at home. If your child is reading long vowels or better they should be able to write sentences. You will be proud of how quickly they improve over the next two months.
Our science will revolve around winter animals and weather. In religion the children should know the Hail Mary and the Our Father by now. Add these two prayers to their night prayers. We continue to follow the sunday Gospel themes. Music plays a big part in understanding the themes.
Children should beable tp practice their reading by themselves sometimes. They can read out looud in the car to school and going home. After they change and play they can read again. Before bed they can read and then maybe in the morning. They read with the children at day care too. I tell the children to practice 5 times a day now. The more they read the better they read..............so read, read, read! All the children should be on Raz-Kids and Mathletics at this time.
