Second graders are learning about force. They have focused on pushes, pulls,
gravity, friction, and magetism. Each lesson involved and hands-on activity
to help the students assimilate the concept. They have pushed and pulled
classroom objects, tested various floor surfaces and shoes for friction and
have explored objects to identify which are magnetic. The students are having
fun learning about forces in a personal manner. Nothing like 'doing it
yourself' to help you understand!

Our next unit will focus on plant parts and functions. We will observe and
explore various plants to determine which plant part we eat. We will watch
our own seeds germinate. Students will learn the many ways plants become
pollinated. Of course, we will plant our own seeds to provide evidence that
plants need water, soil, sun and nutrients to flourish.
