My name is Christine Davis and I am the Special Needs Representative for North Park. I provide input to the PTA Board on issues relating to special education. I pass on information from the board to special education parents and try to ensure that the PTA events such as assemblies, field trips and after school activities are inclusive and accessible, both physically and socially, to all students and parents, and help suggest accommodations to the standard events if they are needed.
In previous years, we have worked with the school librarian to implement a specific section of books related to various special needs in our school library. There are books in this section related to issues varying from diabetes and food allergies to autism and ADHD. If you'd like to read any of these books, please visit our library and ask the school librarian to show you where they are. We have also invited assemblies to our school that deal specifically with learning disabilities.
I also provide special needs updates in the Knightly New and here on this website. If you have any questions or would like to help in any way with any of these events, or if you just need to find out more information, please don't hesitate to contact me at ChristineADavis99@gmail.com. I am the parent of a child with special needs at North Park and if I don't have the answers to your questions chances are I know someone who does!
General Information and Websites
Special Needs Registry and CLEAR
The SNR is a secure, confidential database that can be used by the SCV Sheriffs in an emergency or if a registered person should become lost. Anyone in Santa Clarita Valley can fill out a registry form about a loved one with special needs of any age, providing essential information that sheriffs will need, such as contact information for a caregiver, how to calm the person, how to communicate with him or her, where the person might go if they leave home unattended, and what medications they are taking. It is anticipated that being included in the registry may result in significant improvement in the response time in an emergency and enhanced interactions and outcomes for all involved. The exciting news is that the SNR is going digital. You will now be able to fill out the form and send in the completed form and a photograph electronically, from the comfort of your own home. The info will go to a secure, password-protected database.
