About The Teacher

Although I was born in New York, I have lived in California since I was 2. I attended Palo Alto schools
from kindergarten through high school, then went on to get my BA at UCLA. My teaching credential
was obtained at Chico State University.

This is my 11th year at Oak School. I started here in first grade for 6 years and moved to third grade
4 years ago. I love everything about Oak, especially the wonderful sense of community and support
that we all give each other. My previous teaching experience is quite diverse! My very first job was
teaching for Santa Clara County in the 6th grade science program that used to be "Redwood Glen."
From there, I went to the Juvenile Court system and taught at the Holden Boy's Ranch in Morgan Hill.
After leaving the Bay Area in 1977 I taught first, second, and third grades in Susanville, California,
located in the northeastern part of the state.

I am married to my great husband, David and we have one daughter, Leslie, a son-in-law, Jesse, and
a grandson, Eli, who is 2 years old.

My passions outside of school are golf, travel, walking, reading and squeezing Eli whenever I can!

It Takes a Village to Raise a Child

I believe very strongly, and research supports, that parents are a key ingredient in a child's success in
school. Therefore, we must work together to make this a productive and rewarding year for your child.
Communication between us should be continual and always focus on what is best and what will work
for the individual child. Reinforcement at home, of what takes place at school, is an important part of
the education process. So, take time each day to talk to your child about what they have experienced
and learned at school.

Children must also take an active role in the learning process and need our help and encouragement to
step a little outside their comfort zone in order to move ahead. Learning is a participatory activity and
without a conscious and determined effort on the part of the child, it will not take place.
