February 10, 2012Dear Families,Congratulations to our class for reaching the second trimester word goal of 7,000,000 words! Don't forget that Valentine's Day is on Tuesday! Students will need a "normal" lunch; we'll just add some snacks. Math: We're making very good progress in long division. We'll be doing more practice next week with greater dividends. I'm not sure that we'll be finished with the chapter this week and ready to have the test. I'll keep you posted!Science: Note on the Homework Page that Mrs. Spooner and I are both giving a test on Thursday. Social Studies: We learned many interesting facts about the Pilgrims today. Next week we'll look at the social studies book and watch the DVD that supports the lesson. The students also signed up for a colony today so we can start the next project soon.Language Arts: The Lit. Circles seem to be going well. I know a couple of the groups are not total fans of their books, but the students are committed to finishing. (By the way, these books may count for AR points in the third trimester.)We worked on non-fiction paragraphs this week to learn the difference between fiction leads and non-fiction. We're also practicing paraphrasing information.I think that's the important "stuff" for now. Enjoy your three-day weekend!Sincerely,Debbie Palmer
