WELCOME TO THE 2009-2010 SCHOOL YEAR!
Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year! I am happy to be continuing to serve as Principal of Oak View School.
It is my hope that Oak View families will begin to visit this website and use the information to become more informed about the school events throughout the year.
Last year the parent group took a field trip to the Oak View Preschool and Education Resource Center. We visited the computer lab and the English as a Second Language classrooms. If you are interested in taking classes to learn how to create a Word document or a Power Point presentation or just how to use the Internet there are classes offered in September 2009. For more information call the Huntington Beach Adult School at 714-847-2873.

ABSENCE REPORTING LINE: (714) 842-4459 ext. 2853
Parent Nutrition Classes - An 8 week class is being offered to interested parents every Thursday of the month. The class will be held in the MPR from 8:15-9:15am. The topics to be presented are: The Importance of Exercise, Foundations of Nutrition, Kids in the Kitchen, Reading Food Labels.
School Tours - The school tour for Oak View has been set up for Tuesday, February 23rd from 8:30-9:30am and 1:00-2:00pm. If you have a 5th grader going to Middle School next year, the tours for the Middle Schools are as follows: Marine View March 9 9:00-10:00 Mesa View March 10 9:00-10:00 Spring View March 8 9:00-10:00 Vista View March 12 9:00-10:00
Emergency Procedures - On Thursday, February 18 at 1:00pm there will be an emergency drill practice in every school in our district. Students will be held outside during the drill and it will last about 45 mins. We need parent volunteers to assist with picking students up from the STUDENT RELEASE area so that the staff can practice this process. PLEASE COME TO THE PTO/SSC MEETING ON THURSDAY, FEB 4 AT 6:00pm to learn about how Oak View is prepared in case of an emergency.
READING LOGS- Parents, we need your help! Many students are reporting that they do not read daily. STUDENTS HAVE TO PRACTICE READING TO GET BETTER AT READING! Please be sure to listen to your child read (or read to your student if they are in Kindergarten) nightly, including Saturday and Sunday. Anyone can listen to your student but it is the parents’ responsibility to sign the reading log or binder nightly. Write in the time and dates that you read on the weekends. Some teachers will provide extra credit points for students who show them that they are practicing 7 days a week!
SAFETY ISSUES- Earrings - Students may not wear dangling or loop earrings because they can cause injury to students when they play on the playground. Parking Lot – Use the parking spaces. When cars are double parked or they stop in the middle of the parking lot there are more chances for accidents. Please help by parking your car! Student lunches – remind your student not to exchange lunches or take food from another student. The adults at the lunch tables will monitor students so that they do not eat too much of one item. Unwanted food should be given to the noon duty supervisors so that they can distribute it or throw it away.
