January 9, 2012

Last week flew by and you all made a real concerted effort to organize your goals. You are now in your second trimester and you all have a new binder with  your second trimester goals list, a checklist of the ixl.com standards you need to complete, and you're also keeping your science study papers in this binder. On your desk tops you have two laminated copies of both your trimester goals and the prefixes and suffixes that you will learn this trimester.

Remember that you can always print out an additional copy of your trimester goals, prefixes and suffixes, and ixl.com goals. You need to be focused to complete all of your goals in a timely manner. I will help you by checking what you've accomplished every Monday by looking at your goal sheets and ixl.com checklist. Additionally, I will be checking what you are reading and the points you are earning in Reading Counts.

See you in the morning.

Ms. Hull

I can't believe that it is already December and the end of 2011 is quickly approaching. We only have two more weeks together before we take our Winter Break. You now have your report cards from the first trimester and today we will be discussing your goals for the second trimester. You can go to Printable Documents and print out a copy of your goals. Most of you should be thrilled with your grades but there are those of you that need to become more serious about your studies. Every single one of you should know your multiplication facts without hesitation through the 12's by now.

You have the opportunity to learn so very much in the fifth grade that will help you in sixth grade and junior high, so decide to be the student that always listens, asks questions, and becomes part of your own learning process. I am here at Ocean Knoll before and after school for all of you. I will help you. Here is the list that we complied as a class of what you could do to help yourself stay on top of your studies or improve:

  • Read each night and keep selecting books from the Reading Counts quizzes bank of quizzes. You want to achieve 65 points by December 16th. Congratulations to many of you who already have earned even more than this trimesters goal of 65 points.
  • Use ixl.com for at least 30 minutes daily.
  • Use Math Facts in a Flash.
  • Do your daily homework.
  • Study with the study guides for tests.
  • Learn the states and capitals using sheppardsoftware.com for the Southern states, Midwestern, and Great Lakes states.
  • Use www.sheppardsoftware.com to learn the parts of the cells.
  • Memorize and practice the second trimester Prefixes, Suffixes, and Roots.
  • Learn the preposition song.
  • Continue to practice your multiplication facts.
  • Practice running, sit-ups, and push-ups at home over the weekend.

We can always add new ideas, if you have some more suggestions. Let's get all our goals accomplished!
Your captain,
