About The Teacher

This will be my 18th year at Holmes. I enjoy working with 8th graders
because I have an opportunity to teach my favorite subject - the US
Constitution! My husband and I have lived in Davis for ten years and have
two children in Davis schools, 6th and 8th grade. Each year I look forward
to a new beginning and another chance to get to know young people. I still
keep in touch with past students, many of whom are now college graduates,
getting married and even a couple have babies of their own. This is a
fabulous job!

Mission For The Class

U.S. History curriculum offers students the opportunity to examine history
from various points of view. Students will recognize that interpretations
of history have changed over time and that different perspectives can be
equally as valid. The district's social studies standards are taught using
primary sources as much as possible. A variety of strategies are used to
work through the standards in a way that addresses multiple learning
styles. The 8th grade ELA literature and standards of reading, writing,
listening and speaking blend perfectly with the U.S. History curriculum.
Working with 8th grade English teachers as a team provides students
an opportunity for cross-curricular connections in reading and
writing.

I enjoy the unique challenges and benefits of working with students this
age. The opportunity to explore the 8th grade literature and this time
period of U.S. History through their perspectives and interpretations is very
rewarding. I strongly believe that helping young people grow and learn is a
team effort of parents and teachers. Please let me know when you have any
questions regarding your child and the US History curriculum.
