After being bullied by her mean-spirited English teacher and fellow high school students, oddball 14-year-old Starshine—the product of a broken home and a dead-beat dad—discovers the mysterious question, “Who are you?” painted inside her locker. The next day, after even more harassment, “Star” finds another enigmatic question there: “What do you believe in?” Not only has Star’s world gone to hell in a hand-basket, but now someone is seriously messing with her head. Then a series of mystical events leads Star to Charles, author of the mysterious questions—and her guardian angel. Wise and witty, this angel and friend extraordinaire whisks Star away from her fallen world to the one she’s always dreamed of—psychedelic sixties America.
Join Star on her fantastic adventure as she and Charles hitchhike across America to Woodstock in search of Star’s very own Emerald City. Along the way, she learns important life lessons from a pack of Hells Angels, a wise black hobo, a cynical flower girl, and finally two very special “strangers.” You’ll laugh and cry as Star discovers nothing that happens to her is quite as it seems and that the road to the peace and happiness she seeks leads to the most unexpected of places.
