What happens if I don't do my homework?

Your name will go in the homework notebook and you will serve a
detention. Your parents/guardians will also be notified through
the weekly progress report. If you miss more assignments or have
many incompletes, it will affect your report card grades.

I'm concerned about Outdoor Ed. Do I have to go?

Outdoor Education is part of the fifth grade curriculum for San
Mateo County and other parts of the country. It is an incredible
experience that you will cherish and I highly recommend that all
students be allowed to participate. There will be at least 2
Ortega teachers there to help you if you need anything at anytime
(even at 3:00 in the morning!)

Why do you make me copy my homework in to the Binder Reminder?

The binder reminder system is one that you will use in middle
school and beyond. It is very important that you know exactly
what your homework assignment is so that you do not miss any
assignments.

If you break one rule, your name goes on the board. If you break
two rules in one day, you get a check placed by your name and
must serve a detention.

Homework is really important because it gives you a chance to
practice what we learned in school.

Why do we do Trash Patrol?

As fifth grade students, you set an example for the younger
students through your positive actions. Cleaning up the schoolyard
helps our local animals thrive, keeps our oceans clean, and shows
our Ortega Otters pride!
