Classroom Policies

Classroom Rules

  1. Work quietly.
  2. Listen attentively.
  3. Act responsibly and respectfully.

Consequences

  1. 1st Offense - Verbal Warning
  2. 2nd Offense - Move magnet from Green to Yellow - Complete Think Sheet
  3. 3rd Offense - Move magnet from Yellow to Orange - Recess Benching
  4. 4th Offense  - Move magnet from Orange to Red –  Referral and parental contact

Each student starts at green at the beginning of each school day. Students have the opportunity to move their magnet over to STAR for good behavior and over to yellow, orange, and red for offenses. Students may move back to green and STAR if their behavior improves during the day.

Rewards

STAR – Move magnet to STAR – positive note home

Table Points – Table points will be awarded throughout the day to tables that are on task, listening, following directions, and setting a positive example. The table with the most points at the end of the week earns a trip to the treasure box.

Class Marble Jar – The class will earn marbles in the jar for good behavior, listening, and following directions. Upon filling the jar completely the class will receive a reward, i.e. popcorn party and a movie, ice cream, ect.

Homework Policy

Language Arts homework will go home each night (Monday through Thursday) and needs to be returned the following day. Each student will receive a Math Workbook at the beginning of the year. Pages will be assigned on Monday and need to be torn out and turned in on Friday as a packet (please staple and write your name on each page). Student’s homework will be recorded in their planner and their homework will be brought home in their homework folder. Homework should take no longer than one half hour a night, not including studying for tests, practicing math facts, reading, and long range projects. Spelling tests will be given each Friday (or the last day of the week) and students will receive 3 days notice before the test is given.

Homework needs to be completed in pencil. Students need to put their first and last name and their number on their homework. I expect students to do their best and complete assignments on their own and only ask for help after they have given their best effort.

In the event a student neglects to complete their class work, the student must complete their work that night, in addition to the assigned homework.

I will not accept late work unless a student is sick.

Grading Policy

Students’ work is graded on a point basis. The points correspond to a percentage and each percentage is calculated to correspond with a letter. In order to earn an “O”, outstanding, a student must have above a 96%. Between 95.9% and 65.9%, a student earns an “S”, successful, and below a 65%, results in an “N”, needs improvement.

Completed/Returned Work

Students will have a Thursday folder. In this folder will be their graded work from the previous week. Please review these papers with your child and encourage them to share their activities and work with you! Don't forget to sign your folder and have your child return it the following day.

Birthday Policy

If your child wishes to celebrate his/her birthday with the class, a healthy snack may be delivered to the classroom before school. Please, no candy and if you would prefer to bring in a non-edible snack e.g. pencils, a book or game for the class that is welcome as well. If your child's birthday falls in the summer, we would love to celebrate their half birthday instead.
