Our Lady of Fatima Parish School
Jr. High Responsible Behavior Contract:
This year, the junior high staff has created a new behavior management
system. This system will be consistent and utilized in all junior high
classes, including special subjects. The students will be thoroughly briefed
on this process on the first day of school during a combined 7th and 8th
grade morning meeting with all involved teachers.
Here’s the breakdown:
Dress code, talking/disruption, supplies, other (teacher’s discretion), and
major infractions are the categories that will be monitored.
-Student misbehavior and dress code violations will be recorded on a
clipboard passed through each class.
-A check of misconduct will result in a same day, morning recess benching. If
a check occurs after the morning recess, the student will serve the bench
penalty the next morning recess.
-This system is in lieu of after-school detentions and will hopefully deter
and eliminate student misconduct.
-For every 5 checks of misconduct and/or dress code violations, a half-grade
deduction for the overall report card grade of Responsible Behavior will
occur (no checks=A, 5 checks=A-, and so forth).
-For very serious offenses, students will receive a referral and consequences
will be determined by the school administration.
-In order for students to be eligible to attend school dances, they must have
a C or better in the Responsible Behavior category. This grade will be
checked on the Monday of the week of the dance.
FOR EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS: A two trimester average of C or better maintains
the student’s eligibility to attend the Washington D.C. trip. In the event a
student’s average is less than a C, he/she will not be permitted to attend
the field trip.
-In the event a student has a B- or lower, at one month before the end of
each trimester, the student can write a petition to increase the grade by
half a letter grade (B- to B, for example). The petition will be student
written, will be at least three paragraphs long, and will address the
following questions:
What infractions did I incur?
Why did I make these decisions?
How will I be more responsible and what will I do to ensure more
responsible decision making?
-It is up to the parents and students to be communicating about how the
responsible behavior is progressing. If a student has a B- at the indicated
time in each trimester, the homeroom teacher will notify the parent. Parents,
please ask your students about their progress!
-We do acknowledge that our students make wise and responsible decisions and
for that, we would like to offer the following privileges.
-If an entire homeroom section has a day with no dress code infractions, a
tally mark will be earned. Once ten tally marks (for the entire class) have
been earned, students will be given a choice of an accessory pass: non-
uniform shoes, crazy or low sock pass, or untucked shirt pass.
-If an individual student has three checks or less in all categories on their
behavior contract, the student will earn a free dress pass for the last
Friday of the month.
-Further discussion will take place with the students during the first week
of school, so we can find out what else will encourage them to make wise
choices and acknowledge their individual commitment to excellence.
-We are attempting to harness each student’s accountability and
responsibility each and every school day. We appreciate the cooperation and
support of the students and their families as we prepare them for life and
being conscientious and responsible school and community citizens.
Thank you!
