Classroom Management

Welcome to Third Grade!

I am looking forward to an exciting and challenging year in third grade.  Third grade is a wonderful year of transition from the primary grades to upper elementary.  I have planned ways to assist your child in becoming more organized and self-reliant.  I look forward to a very successful year.!

It is important that class work is in on time and complete.  Class work is due at the end of the school day.  Class work will be subject to the following system:

FIRST DAY: full credit based on performance.

First Day Late: will have 10 points deducted from the performance grade and a notation of the expectation chart.

Second Day Late: will have 20 points deducted from the performance grade and a notation on the expectation chart.

Third Day Late: will have 30 points deducted from the performance grade and a notation on the expectation chart.

FAILURE TO TURN IN THE ASSIGNMENT AT THE END OF THE THIRD DAY WILL RESULT IN A ZERO.

Homework in third grade will be moderate each night.  Homework is intended as reinforcement and should be completed daily.  It is due upon arrival at school and any homework that is turned in later in the day will be considered late.  Projects completed at home, such as the surf (reading) log, will count as a homework grade.  Homework will be subject to the following grading system:

FIRST DAY: full credit based on performance.

SECOND DAY: will have 10 points deducted from the performance grade and a notation on the expectation chart.  If homework is not turned in promptly upon request on the 2nd day, a zero will be recorded, and a notation will be made on the expectation chart.

In order to guarantee the students a learning climate they deserve, I use an assertive discipline approach to classroom management.  I have five classroom rules, which must be followed at all times.

1. Follow instructions immediately.

2. Work on assigned tasks.

3. Keep hands, feet, and materials to yourself.

4. Speak to everyone in a kind and respectful manner.

5. Be respectful of others and all property.

Consequences for failure to practice good classroom behavior will result in the following actions:

*Warning (no mark on the chart)

*1st mark-Mark on the chart and think time

*2nd mark-Mark on the chart, five minutes think time in another area.

*3rd mark-parent contact/STAR referral

*4th mark-office intervention

I am using a behavioral record system which will be located inside the Homework Folder.  Students will receive information as to each day's behavioral progress.  This chart will need to be initialed daily and returned inside the folder.

Tests and projects completed at school count as two grades.  If a child scores lower than a 70%, he/she will be allowed to make corrections.  Their initial score will be recorded once in the grade book, and their corrected score will be the second grade.  The corrected score cannot exceed a 75%.

Transportation is very important.  If there are any changes to the usual method of your child's routine for going home they must be advised in writing to the teacher prior to his/her being allowed to make the change.  Please provide clear instructions about the changed arrangements so that OLF can accommodate your child's needs.  Remember, we always have the safety of your child in mind!

Please feel free to communicate with me any time.  You may contact me at school, e-mail, planner, expectation chart or note.  All parent teacher conferences need to be scheduled ahead of time.

Thank you for taking the time to review this information.  Please keep this for future reference.  I want you to know that I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child!

Blessings,

Mrs. Rodriguez
