The CLASSROOM RULES for Grade 5:
1. Raise hand to speak
2. Be polite and respectful
3. Turn in assignments on time
4. Remain on task
5. Do not run in the classroom
DISCIPLINE is an essential part of personal growth and development. The
purpose of discipline is to provide within the classroom an environment
that is conducive to learning.
So that our classroom runs smoothly, students are assigned three colored
tags: green, yellow, and red. Each tag is pulled when a classroom rule is
broken. For each tag pull, students fill out a tag form stating what they
have done. The tag form is signed by both student and teacher. It is to be
returned the following day with a parent's signature. These forms and tag
pulls are to remind students of their responsibilities and parents to be
aware of their child's behavior. If the misbehavior continues or homework
assignments are not completed, a meeting will be set up with the parents and
student to help solve the problem. If all three tags are pulled in a given
day, a school Behavior Violation form will be sent home to be signed. These
will be given to the office so that the principal is also aware of the
student's progress. Good behavior is rewarded by way of Honor Dollars. Honor
Dollars are given for turning in assignments on time, being prepared and
ready for class, following class instruction, etc. At the end of each month
a class auction will be held. Students may bid on any item in the auction
basket with the Honor Dollars they have earned. In addition students will
also be receiving SLE cards reinforcing positive Student Learning
Expectations.
HOMEWORK POLICY: Homework helps to reinforce what is learned in the
classroom. It also helps to establish good study habits. Daily assignments
are written on the board and can also be found on the internet on our
school's website(teacherweb.com) at the end of the school day. It is the
child's responsibility to copy the assignments correctly in their homework
planner. All assignments need to be completed neatly and headed with the
child's full name, full date, subject and page number.
In case of short absences (one or two days), I prefer that the children
complelte their missing assignments when they return to school. They will be
given ample time to make up work. If they have missed teaching instruction,
the child is to make arrangements and see me for help. When the absence is
long term, please contact me in regard to their work. A TEST grade or paper
with a D or lower needs to be returned with a parent signature.
For children who need additional help in their academic studies, I am
available Monday through Thursday after school from 3:00 to 3:30 during the
first and second tri-semesters. During the third semester, I will be
available in the morning from 7:30 to 7:50 due to after school duty.
Please encourage your children to be neat with their work and complete their
assignmnets on time. Taking pride in one's work builds success. No one can
possibly fail if they try their best.
Thank you for your support. If you have any questions, concerns,
clarifications, do not hesitate to e-mail me or make an appointment so that
we can work together to clarify any problems.
Thank you!!! Mrs. Murphy
