If your goal this year is to make the Principals Honor Roll List, here are
some suggestions for success:
1. Plan out a homework schedule. About seventy-five minutes of homework
is expected each day for fifth grade. If you use your time very wisely in
class, you may complete your homework early and use that time for independent
reading. (Remember that 80-100 minutes a week are required for independent
reading. A Reading Counts quiz is taken every month and once a trimester
there will be a reading project due).
2. Make sure that all assignments are neat and proudly display your FULL
NAME in the upper right-hand corner of the paper. Write the DATE beneath
your name. Include the SUBJECT on the third line. Write your STUDENT NUMBER
in the upper left-hand corner (and remember to include your teachers
initial).
3. Be prepared for each day with the tools you will need and the
assignments that are due. ALL ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE COLLECTED AT THE BEGINNING
OF EACH CLASS. Late assignments (without a parent note) will result in a
lower grade. During the first quarter, your grade will be reduced by 10%.
Five additional percentage points will be subtracted with each subsequent
quarter. Therefore, a late assignment turned in during the fourth quarter
will lose 25 percentage points.
4. Participate in all class discussions. Your ideas are important!
5. Proofread carefully to correct mistakes before turning your work in!
(Points will be deducted for writing mechanics).
6. Show your work on ALL MATH ASSIGNMENTS. Remember to use labels on
word problems. BOX YOUR ANSWERS!
7. Read, Read, READ!
8. Always do your best, and let us know how hard you are trying. Your
effort really counts!
