Welcome to Kindergarten at Plaza Vista!

The following are some of the procedures in our classrooms. Hopefully these will help you and your child feel comfortable in your new school setting. You are also encouraged to check our website. Important information is there for you. You can access the site in this way:

Kindergarten Highlights:

On the kindergarten website each week, you will find “highlights”, or exciting, new ideas and activities that will be presented in class that week. Wehighly encourageyou to review these highlights and have fun extending these ideas and activities at home. We will provide you with some suggestions and optional activities to try at home with your child.

Snack and Backpack

Please send a nutritious snack EACH DAY in a lunch box that is visibly placed with your child’s name. All students should also have a LARGE backpack with your child’s name visibly placed on it, as there are many papers such as student work that go home daily as well as conduits on Thursday.

Sleep Time and Breakfast

We encourage all kindergartners to get to sleep by 8:00 p.m. in order to be well rested and able to perform their personal best the following day. To help start the day off right, provide your child a nutritious breakfast to “fuel” his/her learning. A simple breakfast with a healthy cereal, milk, and banana would be fine.

Thursday Conduits:

Communication is facilitated by the use of a CONDUIT (large yellow envelope). The conduit will come home with your child every Thursday. Please review all the papers in the conduit and return any necessary papers inside the envelope. Thensignand return the conduit envelope the following day! (FRIDAY)

Library Books

A book will come home with your child in a library bag on the day they visit the library. Please make sure your child returns his/her book in the library bag the day BEFORE library day. The first library day will be announced.

Parent Volunteers

We welcome parent volunteers in our classrooms. We will have a parent volunteer training meeting on Wednesday, August 8 at 2:00. You will then be able to arrange a time and day with your child’s teacher.
