GRADE FOUR HOMEWORK POLICY

Homework in the fourth grade will be given most nights throughout the week.  All homework assignments are designed to enhance that which is learned in the classroom.  Quite often activities will have been started in class and students will be expected to complete the activity at home.  On weekends students are expected to read for a specific amount of time and note that on their logs, (details will follow via your student).  As the year progresses the amount of time that students will be asked to read will increase.

Homework is to be returned the following day.**  NO late work will be accepted. 

A ZERO will be given if work is not turned in and the student will complete their work at recess.  This policy applies to all reports as well.  Illness is the only exception to this statement.  If your child becomes ill in the evening, but is able to attend school the next day (fever free for 24 hrs.), and homework is not completed, please send a note so that work can be made up at recess(es).  Homework will not be sent home if your student is absent for one day.

 

MISSED OR INCOMPLETE HOMEWORK CONSEQUENCES

1st infraction:  A homework slip is issued and student is benched at the next recess to complete work.

2nd infraction:  A homework slip is issued and student is benched for the next two recesses to complete work.

3rd infraction:  A homework slip is issued and student is benched for the next two recesses.  Detention is issued.

Detention will be given at the third homework miss in any one trimester.  For the first homework related detention a teacher, parent, and student conference will be held during the week the detention occurs to establish a Homework Contract for you. 

Detention is from 2:35-3:35 every Thursday.  If a school calendar conflict arises, Detention will be rescheduled.

Additional homework misses (i.e.: miss # 4 on) will result in consecutive lines on the behavior card as well as a conference with the teacher and the principal.

 If detention is missed it will be made up and an additional detention will be issued in consequence. Detention will not be rescheduled for things such as play practice, Karate practice, tuba lessons etc.

 

 

Be mindful, once four homework misses occur and behavior card begins to be signed for homework misses, detentions will now occur for both homework as well as other rule infractions. 

Each trimester all students begin the trimester with a “clean card.”

Homework Contracts are unique to each individual student and will remain in place until date stated on each contract.

 

SICKNESS

Sickness happens!  There will be no penalty for missed work due to sickness.  If your child will be out of class for more than two days please make arrangements to pick up his/her work.  WORK WILL NOT BE GATHERED & SENT HOME WORK FOR ONE DAY MISSED.  Due dates will be arranged by the teacher and the student, usually one day given to make up the work for each day absent.  If work is not returned on the predetermined date (by teacher and student) a homework slip will be issued.

 

VACATIONS DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR

If your child is going to be on “vacation” all the work that s/he will miss will be given upon return.  Students will be expected to return the work in a timely manner, due dates will be determined on an individual basis.  Students are expected to be responsible for these due dates once they are set.  Reminders will not be given. 

If work is not turned in on the agreed upon day it will be considered a homework miss, resulting in a homework slip, line on the card and a ZERO will be given.

There will be no exceptions. 

Please be mindful of the school’s policies regarding absenteeism & the assignment of grades.

 

Reading Logs

Reading Logs are to be signed by the parent or guardian.  Of course, other acceptable signers include grandparents, aunts, uncles, or step-parents who are caring for the student during the weekend.  It is the student's responsibility to have the proper reading log for weekend reading and signature.  A piece of paper indicating your student has read will not be accepted and treated as a missed homework assignment.

  •  ONLY IF AN HONEST EFFORT HAS BEEN MADE to complete the work, but the work is incomplete because your student just “doesn’t get it” and emotions run high, a parent may write a note once in a trimester explaining the difficulty. Once back in class I will make sure that your child understands the work, and s/he will complete it at recess.

REGLAS PARA LAS TAREAS DE CUARTO ANO

2010-2011

 

La tarea del cuarto ano es dada todos los dias durante la  semana. Toda la tarea y asignatura es dada con el proposito de mejorar el aprendizaje en clase. La mayoria de las actividades se han empezado en la case y deben de teminarse en casa. En los fines de semana es requerido que los ninos lean un tiempo suficiente y anoten en su cuaderno de lectura. Asi como el ano avanza se espera, que los alumnos incrementen su tiempo de lectura.

 

La tarea debe ser entregada al dia siguiente.  ** NO se acepataran tareas tardes.

 

Un cero se le dara si no regresa la tarea y el alumno tendra que terminarla durante su recreo. Si no regresa su tarea o trabajos, se le pondra una linea roja en su tarjeta. Tambien esto se aplica en los reportes que se entreguen tarde. En caso de enfermedad, esta sera la unica excepcion. Si su nino se enferma la noche anterior, pero puede atender a la escuela al dia siguiente (sin fiebre por 24 horas), y la tarea no esta completa, por favor mande una nota, para que asi pueda terminarla durante el recreo. Las tareas no se enviaran si el alunmno esta ausente por un dia.

 

Tareas y trabajos incomletos y sus consecuencias:

 

Primera Infraccion:  Se enviara una nota y el estudiante tendra que terminar la tarea durante el proximo recreo.

 

Segunda Infraccion:  Se enviara una nota y el estudiante tendra que terminar la tarea durante los proximos dos recreos.

 

Tercera Infraccion:  Se enviara una nota y el estudiante tendra que terminar la tarea durante los proximos dos recreos.  El estudiante obtendra una detencion.  El estudiante obtendra una detencion si no hace su tarea por tercera vez, en cualquier trimester.  Por la primera tarea relacionada con la detencion, el maestro, padre y estudiante tendran que atender una junta durante la semana que ocurra la detencion para establecer un Contrato de Tareas.

 

Se le dara detencion al tener tres veces que no entregue la tarea durante cada trimester. La maestra, los padres , y el alumno/a tendran conferencia durante la semana que tuvo la detencion. La detencion en el salon sera entre 2:35 pm – 3:35 pm todos los jueves excepto en los dias cortos. Si este es el caso, entonces se cambia a otro dia.

 

Si la detencion no se cumple, debera ser cumplida y habra otra detencion como consecuencia.  La detencion no sera re programada debido a practicas de deportes, practica de karate, lecciones de natacion, etc.

 

Mantenga presente que una vez el estudiante no presente cuatro tareas y la nota es firmada por tareas no presentadas, las detenciones ahora ocurrieran tanto por tareas, como por infracciones de las reglas.

 

Cada trimester todos los estudiantes iniciaran el trimestre “sin notas”.

Los Contratos de Tareas son especificos para cada estudiante y permaneceran en efecto hasta la fecha estipulada en cada contrato.

 

ENFERMEDAD:

 

Enfermedades siempre ocurren! No hay ningun castigo por enfermedades. Si  el alumno va a estar mas de dos dias fuera de la escuela, por favor haga arreglos para que alguien recoja la tarea o trabajos y se mantenga al corriente. NO SE ENVIARA TRABAJO O TAREAS A CASA POR UNA AUSENCIA DE UN DIA. Los dias que se vence las tareas o trabajos se  le dara otra fecha determinada entre el maestro y el alumno/a. Normalmnete un dia para completar se le dara por cada dia que haya faltado a clase.

 

VACACIONES DURANTE EL ANO ESCOLAR

 

Si su hijo va a estar de vacaciones, todo el trabajo y tareas tiene que entregarse cuando regrese a clase. Los alumnos deben regresar sus tareas en un tiempo razonable. Las fechas se le dara de acuerdo al maestro e individualmente. Los alumnos son responsables de recordar estas fechas. No se daran recordatorios.

 

Si no entrega las tareas o trabajos en la fecha indicada, se considerara como que no la entrego. Y el resultado es una tarjeta marcada con rojo.. y un cero de calificacion.

 

NO HABRA EXCEPCIONES!

 

Por favor recuerde que estas son las reglas de la escuela en lo que se refiere a faltas y  calificaciones en sus trabajos  asignados.

 

DIARIO DE LECTURAS

Los diarios de lecturas deben ser firmados por el padre o el guardian.  Obviamente, otras firmas aceptables incluyen los abuelos, tios, padrastros o aquellos que esten encargados del cuidado del estudiante durante el fin de semana.  Es la responsabilidad del estudiante tener el diario al dia durante el fin de semana y obtener la firma.  Un pedazo de papel mencionando que el nino ha leido no sera aceptado.

 

·      Reglas y fechas de entrega pueden varias un poco si se puede documentar que el estudiante tiene problemas de aprendizaje.

·      SOLO SI SE HA HECHO UN ESFUERZO CONCIENTE de terminar las tareas, pero el estudiante simplemente “no entiende”, un padre puede escribir una nota una vez en un tremestre explicando la dificultad.  Durante la clase, hare todo mi esfuerzo para que el estudiante entienda la leccion y pueda terminar la tarea durante el recreo.
