Homework is practice! You have to practice if you want to improve your skills.
This year I will be using Jupiter Grades(formerly SnapGrades.) This program
gives you access to your child's grades as soon as I enter them.
Weekly Assignments:
"Spelling" runs Thursday to Thursday. Students will receive a List/workpacket
that is due before the test on Thursday. Extra practice can be found on the
Spelling City website under ELA links. Students will take the test online on
Thursday morning. They can play games and take practice tests on the website
to prepare.
"AR" Students need 35-40 points per trimester and should try to get 5-10
points per week. Students who read more increase their reading levels. There
are also many short nonfiction books at all reading levels available for
reading in the classroom. There is absolutely no excuse for not exceeding the
reading goal.
"AM" gives students extra practice of skills in a test friendly format. It
also allows high students to move ahead and struggling students to receive
remediation of skills from previous years. Students are required to pass 50
Objectives a trimester. That is a very low goal and will only cover half of
the 5th grade objectives. Please encourage your child to go beyond the goal.
Last year, I had several student pass the 5th and 6th grade objectives and one
who finished the 7th grade objectives as well.
"Word Study" and "Greek/Latin Roots" We will begin with word study and then
change to Greek and Latin Roots after Thanksgiving. This is designed to help
students improve their vocabulary.
Daily assignments will no longer be accepted late unless they are completed at
recess the day they are due. Projects and long term assignments late at my
discretion.
