Is there homework every night?
Yes, although students who are on task and manage their time wisely may complete a some to most
of it during independent work time. However, after school reading a fiction or non-fiction book and
responding is expected daily.
How can parents know if students are completing homework?
It is recommended to students and parents that parents check homework quality and accuracy daily
and initial the student's planner daily. Even if WORK IS FINISHED IN CLASS, it should be checked briefly
by parents and the planner initialed. Additionally, all work is returned with some type of grade, mark,
or corrections for review by student and parent in the Friday Folder ALONG WITH THE HAPPY FRIDAY
SLIP for student and parent to complete and return to school in the empty Friday Folder on the next
school day which is usually Monday.
What is the Happy Friday Slip?
The Happy Friday Slip is a list of work that was returned to students that goes home with student work
on in the Friday Folder. Parents and students check over the returned work, recording the mark/grade on the
Happy Friday Slip along with any comments, questions, and/or corrections, if needed.
What is the purpose of the Happy Friday Slip?
By setting aside a few minutes weekly for parent and student to review completed work many questions
can be answer, problems prevented, praise heaped :), and awareness level raised. If student work is
missing, find out why! It may be no name, not turned in, or not turned in on time, or student was
absent. Late work will be returned, but it will not be listed by the teacher on the slip. By weekly
filling in of the Happy Friday Slip, parents and students are kept aware of grade trends and
understanding levels.
May students redo assignments that follow below 70% on the Happy Friday Slip?
Yes, corrections are encouraged! Corrections are explained on the Happy Friday Slip. They need to be
done on a NEW piece of paper, with a title, showing ALL work, explaining what kind of error was made
, and STAPLED TO THE ORIGIAL ASSIGNMENT. Accurately completed corrections will have grade raised
to 70%. We do this frequently in class and it is called "Error Analysis".
