					Title of the book
					Pages read or chapter number(s)

Types of Responses

I.	Respond to an open ended question (be  to refer to the page number in 
the text when answering.)
A.	How does the main character feel about ________?
B.	Describe the relationship between  ___________ and _________ (two 
main characters in the story)
C.	What has the author done to make you want to continue reading?
D.	What has the author done to build suspense inthis chapter?
E.	Was there anything about what you read that surprised you?

II.	Reflect on your personal reactions while reading
A.	As you read, write down thoughts that are going         through your 
head
B.	Were you reminded of something in your own life as you were reading?  
Make a text to self connection.
C.	What were you wondering about as you were reading?
D.	What questions came to mind as you read?

III.	Choose several unknown vocabulary words
A.	Choose three words that you would kike to know the meanings of.  For 
each word write the page number where it is found, how it is used and what 
you think it means.  Then use a dictionary to find the meaning of the words 
and write the definition that is appropriate for the word.

IV.	Illustrate part of the text
A.	Draw a favorite part of the text
B.	Based on the author’s description, draw one of the characters
C.	Draw the setting as described by the author
D.	Select a scene and draw how you picture it
E.	Become the illustrator of the chapter you just read

a.	Write a half page summary about what you have read

IX.	Connections
a.	Make a text to text, text to world or text to self connection.  
Explain the connection in detail.

X.	Figurative Language
a.	Give examples of metaphors, similes, hyperbole, and personification 
that the author has used.  Explain what the examples mean and note book page.

XI.	Dialectical journal
a.	Choose significant quotes from the story, tell what they mean to you, 
and how they relate to your life
