Welcome to Algebra 1 with Ms. Chun! I am looking forward to exploring
mathematics with you. As we begin the new school year, I would like to
provide you with the classroom rules and procedures to provide a supportive
learning environment for everyone.
Classroom Rules:
In addition to the following rules, I will enforce all school rules that can
be found in your handbook.
Be prompt: Be in your seat and ready to participate when the bell rings or you
will be marked tardy.
Be prepared: Have all of your supplies and homework daily. Make sure that
your pencil is sharpened before the bell rings.
Be polite: Be courteous and respectful to everyone and to classroom property.
Absolutely NO talking when Ms. Chun is speaking and absolutely NO
talking when a student has permission to ask a question or explain a
problem.
Be productive. Stay on task, participate, work cooperatively, and take good
notes.
Be positive. Keep an open mind to new strategies and be
enthusiastic !!!
Disciplinary Consequences:
1st Offense: Verbal warning
2nd Offense: Parent Contact-phone call or written conduct report
3rd Offense: Teacher Detention
4th Offense: Dean or counselor referral
Severe Clause: Immediate removal from class for any serious or dangerous
behavior.
Grading:
Grades will be accessible through Power School.
Final grades will be based on the following:
60% Tests
15% Quizzes
15% Homework and Class work
10% Class Participation and effort
Tests: The tests are announced at least one week in advance.
Quizzes: Quizzes may be announced or unannounced. You need to be prepared at
any time to take a quiz. Quiz questions will come from recent homework
assignments.
Quiz and Test Retakes: Quiz retakes are not allowed. Each student is allowed
to re-take one test per semester on a test with a grade of 69% or lower. The
original grade and the make-up grade will be averaged together and the new
grade is not to exceed 70%.
Homework: Homework will be assigned daily Monday through Thursday. All
homework problems should be attempted. Homework must be completed in pencil.
Homework in pen will not be accepted and will be given a zero. Homework is
due at the beginning of class. I will accept homework one day late for
half credit. Each homework assignment is worth 5 points. It is not graded
on right or wrong but on effort and completion.
Participation consists both of answering questions and asking questions in
class as well as taking notes in class. Also, behavior and attitude are
factored in.
Absent work:
In the event of an absence, you are responsible for finding out what you have
missed. You may obtain notes from your classmates and missed assignments from
Ms. Chun. Students have the length of the absence plus one day to make up any
missed work. Any work not turned in by the allotted time will be counted as a
zero.
Binders: You are required to keep a three ring binder only for math class.
The binder is to include five dividers labeled: syllabus, notes, homework,
test/quizzes, and handouts. This binder will be checked periodically. Spiral
notebooks may be used for only taking notes. All homework will be completed
on looseleaf paper.
All work in math is to be done in pencil. Work in
pen will not be accepted.
This Syllabus is to remain in the student’s Math Binder for reference.
