What is "GFS on WP?" (Given, Find, Solve)
For the word problems, students are required to set
up "Given,Find,Solve."
GIVEN: List important infomration needed to solve the problem
Write all units
Do not copy the problem, word for word
FIND: Define the variable(s)--> Let x = the amount of ...
State what the problem is asking you to find.
SOLVE: Write equation(s), show your work and solve.
Write you answer in a complete sentence.
Please take the time to come and see me if you have any
questions. Students will lose points on Assignments if this
format is not followed for word problems!
When is it okay to use a pen in class?
Students are allowed to use a pen on their notes, Teacher notes,
and for
GRADING their assignments. A pencil must be used for
Assignments, Tests,
Quizzes, and any classwork that is turned in.
Will I lose points if I do my assignment in pen?
YES! The highest a student can receive on an assignment done in
pen is 2 out
of 4.
When are Assignment packets due?
Each assignment packet is due on the day of the test. It will
not be
counted "late" if the student turns it in one day after
the test, but for
everyday that the packet is late thereafter, they will lose a
point.
How often will we have a Test or a Quiz?
Almost every Friday, the students will have a test, quiz, or some
graded
activity.
Do I have to take notes in class, even if I understand all the concepts?
YES! In Algebra, you will be given a notebook quiz on your
notes. This
will count towards your letter grade. In Algebra Extended, there
are test
questions about the notes you took in class. ALWAYS DATE YOUR
NOTES!! The
quiz and test question will always refer to the date of the notes.
What do I do when I miss class?
If it is an excused absence, you can either get the missed
assignments from
this website and turn it in the day you return, or see me on the
day you
returned to get the missed materials. If possible, it is best to
keep up
with the class even when you are out!
Can I bring backpacks to class or put it outside of the classroom?
NO! 7th and 8th grade students have lockers and they should use
them. Get
your Period 1 & 2 materials before school, Period 3 & 4 materials
during
snack, and Period 5 & 6 materials during lunch!
Can I eat and drink in class?
NO! We are right next to the cafeteria and the ants can easily
find crumbs
and spilled drinks! XoP
Water is the only thing that you can drink in class.
Can I throw away graded material as soon as I get them back?
NO! Please hold on to all graded material until the end of 2nd
quarter/4th
quarter. It will be your only proof if there is a mistake with
my records.
Can I throw away an Assignment that has been stamped onto my Assignment sheet?
NO! After each test, you are responsible for turning in all the
Assignments
for that Chapter, stapled behind the Assignmnet sheet. Please
see me if you
have any questions.
Will you be available for extra help outside of class?
Yes. I can meet with you before school or at snack. I am only
at school
through 3rd period and will no longer be able to meet during
lunch or after
school. Please see me to make arrangement to meet.
