How can my child be successful in this class?
Students need to pay attention in class and take a good set of
notes in their spiral notebook. Homework is essential to
understanding the concepts. Without the practice, basic problem
solving skills might not be mastered. Students should also study
for their test.
What's the best way to study for a test?
Students will be given a review sheet the day before the test.
If they could do everything on that review sheet, then they
should do fine on the test. I create the review sheet by looking
at the homework problems that were assigned throughout the week.
That is why doing the homework on a daily basis is the best way
to prepare for a test.
How is their grade calculated?
Their final quarter grade is the total number of points earned
divided by the total number of points possible. This year we are
also on the semester system, which means that grades from Quarter
1 will carry over into Quarter 2. This is also means that grades
from Quarter 3 will carry over into Quarter 4.
Why should I make up homework if I don't get the points back?
Students should always make up any missing assignments even
though they will not get back any points. First of all, students
need to understand the missed topic in order to do well on the
test, and the next section, since math usually builds on itself.
The other reason is that if students are on the borderline for
their final grade, and they have all their missing assignments
in, then I will pull them up to the next grade. However, if
students are missing a lot of homework assignments and never make
it up, I will not pull up their grade.
When are you available for extra help?
I will be available during snack time and before school, but
students need to make an appointment with me so that I can make
arrangements.
