SS Lucy Song

Lucy Was an Australopithecus

Picture yourself in a world full of danger

Wild animals hunt; you must live in trees

Your brain is small and you’re not a good thinker

Ate insects, nuts, berries and seeds

She was as tall as a 6th grader’s shoulder

She slept in trees or she’s dead

Dug up in Africa Donald Johanson

Three million years and she’s gone

Lucy was an Australopithecus (3x); she’s gone

Handy man also known as homo habilis

Tools made of stone, wood pieces and bone

Tools used for digging and scraping and cutting

He never hunted alone

Homo erectus, the man who stood upright

Migrated to search for food

Made better tools; was the first to use fire

For warmth, cooking, light, but he’s gone

Upright man was homo erectus; handy man was homo habilis,

Lucy was an Australopithecus; they’re gone

Neanderthal man also called homo sapiens

Lived in cold climate and buried their dead

Tools more advanced, very strong, found in Germany

They had bigger brains in their head

Last was cro magnon, they are most like us

Made bows and arrows and spears

Sculptors, musicians and painters of caves

Lived here for thousands of years

Upright man was homo erectus; handy man was homo habilis,

Lucy was an Australopithecus; they’re gone

Hominids, Australopithecus, habilis

Homo erectus, Neanderthal, too

Sapiens sapiens, we are cro magnon

Five stages of man, let’s remember who’s who

Upright man was homo erectus; handy man was homo habilis,

Lucy was an Australopithecus; they’re gone
