About The Teacher

Ms. Nowak has been teaching for over thirty years, and has been a three-time 
nominee of the Disney "Teacher of the Year" Award.  She has had experience 
with grades ranging from kindergarten through sixth; sixth being her 
favorite and longest lasting.  She originated the sixth grade "government" 
system, which is an exciting way for students to internalize the ideas of 
taking responsiblity and dealing with rewards and consequences.  

Ms. Nowak could be considered a "drama queen".  She had directed musical 
plays for over twenty years, but decided to hang up her director's cap in 
2004.  She does, however, satisfy her passion for music through her sixth 
grade enrichment class of singing and dancing.  The class does include The 
Beatles, one of her most beloved musical influences.  She also incorporates 
drama whenever possible into her ELA and Social Studies classes.

Anyone who steps into her classroom will immediately note another of her 
characteristics - a fondness for animals, particularly cats.  Photos of 
previously owned and lost pets decorate the classroom, and she has many 
treasured stories to accompany them.
