TEACHER: Ms. Kristl Holtz		COURSE TITLE: Social Studies – 7th

COURSE EMPHASIS:

This survey course of world history includes the following:

Fall of Rome    Early African Civilizations   Mayas, Aztecs,Incas     
Reformation     Medieval Japan & China     Medieval Europe      
Renaissance     Rise of Islam              Islam's Influence in Africa     
Age of Exploration    Geography of the World

MATERIALS:
	.  Textbooks: Across the Centuries (old book) & Medieval and Early 
            Modern Times (new book also available online through my etusd  
            site)
	.  College ruled paper
 	.  Pens (dark blue & black, red), regular pencils, highlighters, 
           stapler, ruler, eraser, colored pencils

ASSESSMENT/GRADING POLICY:
Students will have many ways to demonstrate their knowledge of the subject 
through tests, map activities, class projects, group participation, oral 
presentations, homework packets, and class discussions.
Student Grade =		40%  Tests/Quizzes
			40%  Homework/Classwork
                        20%  Projects
			HOMEWORK:
	.  An average of 30 minutes per day Monday through Thursday.       
           Sometimes work on weekends.
        .  Student success depends upon doing all homework on time.  
           Assignments are due at the beginning of the class period. All work 
           turned in after that is considered late and will receive no higher 
           than a “C” if it is up to one day late. Grade continues to go down 
           after that. 
           NO LATE WORK ACCEPTED IN THE 4TH QUARTER OF THE YEAR.
        .  No homework or project is accepted beyond 5 days after the 
           original due date. No project will be accepted right after any 
           major holiday break if the project was due before the break.
           MISSING WORK will receive a zero (0) after 5 days from the due 
           date.

PARENT COMMUNICATION:

TEACHER WEB page (www.teacherweb.com) will be updated daily and will inform 
students and parents of homework and upcoming tests and projects.

PARENT CONNECT (www.parentconnect.tusd.org will inform students and parents 
of all grades on assignments, tests and projects. 
PARENTS AND STUDENTS SHOULD ALWAYS BE AWARE OF THEIR GRADES BY USING THIS 
TOOL. Get your Pin # and Password # from Shelley in the office.

MY CONFERENCE PERIOD is Period 1 (8:10 - 9:03). Feel free to call 
(310-533-4790 Ext. 8921) to talk or set up an appointment. You can also leave 
messages with Shelley. OTHER COMMUNICATION: BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT, PROGRESS 
REPORTS (every 5 weeks) and REPORT CARDS (every 10 weeks), 
Once graded, all tests and projects will be sent home for 
a parent’s signature.
	.  Tardies follow school policy. (see school handbook)
	.  Bring all required materials to class.
	.  No gum, candy, food, beverages, phones, ipods in class. Water 
           bottle with sport cap is allowed.
	.  Tests must be made up in a timely fashion.
