COURSE EMPHASIS
This course deals with the events from 500 AD to 1800 AD. After
the fall of Rome we will concentrate mainly on the Middle Ages comparing the civilizations of Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and the Americas.
Modern geography and current events will be covered throughout the year.
MATERIALS
-Textbook or CD-Rom: "Medieval and Early Modern Times" (student copy provided for HOME use)
- Social Studies pocket folder that can be removed from a binder and notebook paper to keep notes for end of unit packets.
-Pens, pencils, and HIGHLIGHTER.

ASSESSMENTS/GRADING POLICY
Students will have many ways to demonstrate their knowledge of the subject through map activities, class projects, tests, research projects, group participation, oral presentations, and writing in class and for homework.
Organized in the following manner:
-40% Tests and Quizzes
-30% Packets with notes and textbook homework
-20% Class folder (class assignments, projects)
-10% Cooperative learning activities
HOMEWORK
Homework will be posted on the board on MONDAY.Students are strongly encouraged to have their planners on them at all times. Students usually have homeworkd 2-3 times a week as needed to complement what we do in class. Unfinished class assignments, work on projects and reading assignments are homework. It is a good idea to review notes weekly.
Late work is accepted ONLY for longer writing assignments and will be accepted for ONE week after the due date.The highest grade given for late work is a "C".
No credit given for late short homework assignments...we go over it in class.
MAKE-UP/ ABSENCES
Work missed due to absences must be made up. The student will be allowed one day for every day missed to make up the work up to a maximum of one week. It is the RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENTS to get the missing assignments in the COPY BOX or copy class notes in class to catch up. Stamped homework
assignments must be stamped upon your return.
PARENT COMMUNICATION
In addition to back-to-school night, progress reports, and report cards, conferences may be arranged during my conference period, period 2. The Richardson Assignment Books are also an excellent means of communication.

ATTENDANCE AND TARDIES
Students are expected to be on time to class. Excessive tardies(more than 3)
may result in a "U" in citizenship.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
-Required materials are to be brought to school daily on their desk at the beginning of the period. Everything else must be stored under the desk.
-Homework is to be completed and on time.
-Mutual respect and consideration are to be shown at all times.
