How do weekly Behavior/Participation points work?
Every student is given 10 points a week for coming to class,
following the
school/class rules, and generally doing the things successful
students do.
A
student can lose points for a variety of reasons. If a student
is off task,
talking out of turn, eating in class, being rude, failing to turn
in
assignments on time, etc. they will lose points and receive fewer
than 50
points for the week. If your child has fewer than 50 points on
their weekly
grade check you should discuss their behavior and/or work habits
to see what
the problem may be.
What happens when a student is absent?
Students who are absent are still responsible for the work they
miss. At
the beginning of the year we strongly recommend the students
establish a
relationship with an "academic partner." An Academic
Partner is a fellow
student with whom a commitment is made to help each other
out when one of them is absent. Each "Academic Partner
makes sure their
partner gets notes, assignments, and any other materials they may
miss
during their absence.
In addition to their Academic Partner students can utilize the
homework
hotline, this web page, or their friends to help them keep up
with what is
going on in class.
The main message here is a student is held fully accountable for
all work
they may miss during an absence.
