Hello. My name is Robin Taylor and I am a First Grade teacher at Roy
Herburger Elementary School. I have been teaching First Grade for the last 8
years. I was one of the original First Grade teachers when Herburger School
began. I love this school and love First Grade!
A little about me: I was an English Learner - my first language was Japanese!
After receiving an excellent public school education, I attended Stanford
University where I graduated with degrees in Art and Biology. I then taught
English in Japan and also worked in the publishing and
catering fields. I received my teaching credential in elementary education
from San Francisco State University and immediately began teaching in the Elk
Grove Unified School District. I have also been a trainer and leader with the
California Reading & Literature Project through Sacramento State University.
Teaching is an amazing profession and privilege. I consider it to be:
1. a science - It's important for me to keep abreast of current educational
research to make sure that I am teaching your children most effectively. I am
currently reading about "The Daily 5" and "Math Boards" and I will be
attending the "Education Through Music" Winter Colloquium - great stuff!
2. a craft - Teaching requires a willingness to try out new strategies and
give up old, ineffective ideas. It also requires me to adapt teaching
techniques to each new student who enters my classroom. Every child learns
differently. There is no "one-size-fits-all" solution.
3. a passion - I was born to teach. I LOVE what I do and couldn't imagine
myself doing anything else. It's as if it is a part of my genetic code!
In addition to my First Grade teaching, I am also the English Language
Coordinator at Roy Herburger Elementary School. It is my job to make sure
that all English Learners receive the appropriate services to aid in their
academic success.
I have been happily married for 12 years and am the mother of two small
children, ages 6 and 4. Like many of you, I juggle full-time work outside of
the home with many parenting and domestic responsibilities in the home! When
I have free time, I enjoy reading novels, exercising, cooking new
recipes, and writing.
I want my students to:
1. love learning,
2. become citizens of the world,
3. and know that they are capable of anything - as long as they hold onto
their dreams and work hard!
