What is the Kindergarten curriculum?

Kindergarten Curriculum


Language Arts
�	Open Court Series
�	Emphasis on letter/sound recognition and proper letter formation
�	Sight words introduced with �Word of the Week� books 
throughout the school year
�	Use of Open Court early readers
�	Writing skills modeled and encouraged through prompts, daily logs,  
and free-write with journals
�	Songs, stories, poetry, crafts, and games are all part of the 
learning process
�	Instruction given as a whole group, small group, one-on-one with 
teacher, aide, or parent volunteer
�	Monthly read-aloud forms/prizes to encourage reading at home

Mathematics
�	Houghton Mifflin Series
�	Sample units include number sense, graphing, sorting/classification, 
patterning, measurement, geometry, time/calendars, money, addition and 
subtraction facts

Religion
�	Sadlier, We Believe Series
�	Units include the life of Jesus as a boy to adult, Church year, 
Church holidays and holy days, God made the world, God made us, we learn 
about God through our families
�	Attendance at Mass 
�	Daily prayer
�	Prayer corner � weekly intentions 

Social Studies
�	Houghton Mifflin Series
�	Sample units include our world long ago and today, our 
country/holidays, introductory mapping skills

Science

Physical Education
