Classroom management:
I use a number of different management tools and procedures throughout the classroom, as well as both informal and formal procedures in regards to discipline (close proximity vs. redirection vs. 5pts off responsibility record). Each student is aware of the classroom rules and procedures as well as the consequences.
Parents will be given a weekly behavior log/responsibility record to be signed and returned. Please discuss your child’s behavior with them and remember a little positive reinforcement goes a long way!
Homework Books/Agendas:
- Each day, students are to copy down assignments from the board.
- There is no such thing on Monday through Thursday as “No homework”. There needs to be a minimum amount of time each day devoted to homework, whether it be reading, studying, or organizing one’s binder
Grading:
I will be grading on a point system. No late work will be accepted for credit. If a student completes all of his/her homework on time, they will receive full points regardless of their performance on that assignment. Points may be deducted from the assignment if students do not follow directions or show the proper effort. Homework is graded this way so it can be a valid and valuable assessment tool. The student must earn their grade through performance on tests, quizzes, and projects. Tests, quizzes, and projects are also graded on a point system. Homework and class participation count as 35% of the final grade. Tests, quizzes and projects will count for 65% of the final grade. I calculate history tests twice. To calculate the final grade at the end of the assessment period, I will use the school grading scale:
100-93% = A 79-77% = C+ 62-60% = D-
92-90% = A- 76-73% = C
89-87% = B+ 72-70% = C-
86-83% = B 69-67% = D+
82-80% = B- 66-63% = D

Grading Criteria
Students are graded in the following areas: Homework, Chapter Quizzes, Chapter test, Projects, Class Participation, Oral test

Quiz/Test/ Projects/ Oral Presentations - 50%
Homework
Homework will usually consist of:
Learn vocabulary words (flash cards)
Assignments from workbooks
Worksheet
Notebook assignments
Completion of class work
The homework assignments are a reinforcement of what has been learned in the classroom; Homework is assigned twice a week. Students are required to bring their completed homework to each class. If students fail to bring in their homework on the designated due date, late homework will be accepted in the next class and 10 points will be deducted. If it is not turned in the next class, the student will receive a zero. Absent students are responsible for finding out their missing assignments and turning them in on time. Missing homework assignments will affect the grade.

Students will participate in skits, role-playing, and dialogues

Extra Instructional Support
It is becoming evident that in order to succeed in the 21st century, today’s students need to be linguistically and culturally prepared to participate in a global society. Students will benefit from foreign language instruction. It is my goal, to educate and help students to develop linguistic proficiency and cultural sensitivity in the Spanish language. I know that not all students learn at the same rate or in the same way therefore if your child needs help, please let me know via email or contact me through the school number, and I will gladly make myself available to assist you.
Sincerely,
Sra. Maridakis
