Thank you to all who ordered from the Greeting Card Fundraiser! Thank you to
all the moms who were able to help with our Thanksgiving Turkey's! I pray
you all have a safe, healthy, and blessed Thanksgiving enjoyed with your
families!
There will be no Scholastic Book Orders during December, as we are sponsoring
a Book Fair through our local Barnes & Noble in Long Beach - in the
Marketplace at PCH and 2nd Street. Please come out and participate! It
begins the 3rd and runs through the 13th of December!
Advent is here! Prayer Service at 9:30 on Monday, November 30th - please be
sure to send your child to school in their regular school uniform!
During this Season - we will have several "outreach" opportunities:
First - Maya Patel and her family will be visiting the Orphanage in India
where Mira was adopted. They will be taking "new" baby blankets with them.
We will begin collecting "new" baby blankets beginning on Monday, November
30th!
Second - The Church sponsors a Christmas Dinner - we have been asked to
donate Mr. & Mrs. Claus Gifts. After the dinner, everyone who attends is
given a Special Gift. If they are a man, they receive a Mr. Claus gift, if
they are a woman, they receive a Mrs. Claus gift. No need to put who it is
to on the gift tag. Items that are useful, Cards, Books, Music CDs, Mugs,
Scarf/Glove Sets, Throw Blankets (Please refrain from food, or perfumed items
since many are sensitive to these items.) Rooms 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 are
all collecting Mr. Claus gifts only, and Rooms 1a, 2a, 3a, 4a, 5a, 6a, 7a &
8a are collecting Mrs. Claus gifts only!
Third - We will be adopting a Family from We Care - we are sharing this
family with our Fifth Grade Friendship partners. Many times these are local
families in need of assistance! Anything you can do, will help them
greatly! If everyone from our class alone sent in $10, that would be a total
of $290 - that would be a great start to a great Christmas! (As soon as we
know more information, I will forward it to you.)
Special Note about your child's reading! Please refer to the "Importance of
Summer Reading" tab on our webpage. Many of our students are needing parent
support with their reading practice at home - they should be reading out loud
to you for a minimum of 15 minutes each day! Please see the importance of
helping your child to choose appropriate books for their comfort level and
reading practice. The Star Report that you received earlier this month
indicated your child's estimated comprehension/comfort level for reading
success.
AR Book Goal for the 2nd Quarter:
Each child will be responsible for reading 12 AR books for this quarter.
Only 6 of these books can be completed at home through Book Adventure. The
other 6 must be completed in class at school! 75% of the students in Room 2
not only achieved last quarters goal of 8 ARs, they exceeded it! One student
read 18 books, all in class! So get started this weekend, and be ready to
reach that goal! It's easy to attain if you read a minimum of 2 books per
week.
If you are interested in volunteering in Room 2 or 2A, you are welcome any
Monday-Thursday from 8:30-10:00am. Feel free to come in, be sure to sign in
at the office before joining us. We love to have the children read aloud to
a parent, so if you are available, please stop by. Please note: If you drop
in at another time of the day, we may ask you to help us with other tasks
that may not involve working directly with the children. If that's okay with
you, then we'd be more than happy to have your help!
We'd like to say special "thanks" to Mrs. Tuttle, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Karich,
and Mrs. Bareford who have all been able to work us into their busy schedules
and have been able to stop in on a regular basis to help out in Room 2!
Right now we have at least 2-3 parents able to stop in on Tuesday and
Thursday. Monday's and Wednesday's are still open!
Room 2 has a wonderful volunteer - every Tuesday morning - Marianna Simeone.
She is a parishioner here at St. Hedwig, and comes to listen to the children
read after she attends mass. She is a qualified Music Instructor. She's a
memeber of the MTAC and NGPT. She teaches piano for reasonable fees. If you
are interested, please contact her at 562/430-4680. She has worked with many
families here at St. Hedwig. Mrs. Bancroft's children have gone to her for
some time now, she would be a good reference for you. Her children are Sarah
and Caroline.
