Easter Celebrations are always something I look forward to. Whether its
spending time with family, reconnecting with friends that I have not
heard from, enjoying time outdoors, a little extra time at church, it
seems to be a good time to think about things we have done, and what is
ahead for the year. I hope everyone had a great Easter with your
families.
This Sunday we will continue with our last few classes of the year, mostly
reviewing what we have studied and talked about through the year. As many
of you did two weeks ago, you will continue to do presentations on your
thoughts and interpretations of various themes from the Bible, and some of
the chapters in Blest Are We. The presentations from last time were very
impressive and I am always so glad to see everyone participating.
Don't forget about your vocabulary lists. You are each to prepare a list of all
of the vocabulary words (yellow highlighted) from the Hear and Believe
pages from your Blest Are We text books. You can find the list on this
web site too, just click on the Vocabulary in the far left menu.
We will also do a short review of each of the chapters from our Blest Are We
text, focusing on the Hear and Believe pages we read from during the
year.
I look forward to seeing everyone this Sunday. Tom
March 14, 2012
What a great class we had this past Sunday. We spent most of the time talking
about Paul and his travels and writings. Paul's travels included
Philippi, Thessalonica, Athens, Corinth, Ephesus, Jerusalem, Malta, &
Rome. We watched the videos that I have posted here on the web site.
We also talked about an outline on letter writing formats. Everyone seemed to
know this already....introductions, body, closing. Paul's outlines go
like this....
Opening - referrals to sender-receiver and a blessing
Thanks - thanksgiving statement & introduce theme
Body - message of the letter, details of the theme
Closing - includes his personal greetings, prayers, hymn, praise
You dont need to spend much time on this and dont go looking to hard. Next
time you are in church, and you hear " a letter from Paul to the
Corinthians" , maybe you will hear something that sounds like an
opening, body and closing.
Now for this coming Sunday and the next we are going to spend most of our time
reviewing all of the books of the Bible, and all of the chapters in
Blest Are We. You, with a classmate (team member) are going to do an
oral presentation reviewing and discussing the Bible and Blest Are We.
Everyone has done a great job this year on standing up in front of the
class doing presentations, so this end of year event is much the same.
p> Here is an outline of what you and a partner will be presenting:
a) discuss the major events of the following time periods and parts of the
bible
b) comment on what was written, the authors intent and audiance, how our
church interprets, what is the meaning to you.
- you will be assigned one or more of the following:
We have been very busy the last two weeks. First, we finished Unit 5 in Blest
Are We, completed the review questions and did the online quiz. Over the
next few sessions we are going to do a full review of all of the
chapters in the book. You should do the same at home, just taking a
quick look at each of the Hear and Believe pages we typically read from,
and the Vocabulary words on those pages.
In your Bibles, we are still reading and doing comparisions in the Gospels,
this week we are spending some time on the Gospel of John. Your next
assignment is to work on the Letters. In your Bibles, read the 1st page
Introductions, Headlines and Factoids of the following:
The Letter to the Romans - page 1635
The First Letter to the Corinthians - page 1661
The 2nd Letter to the Corinthians - page 1686
The Letter to the Galatians - page 1698
The Letter to the Ephesians - page 1708
The Letter to the Philippians - page 1715
The Letter to the Thessalonians - page 1728
The Letter to the Hebrews - page 1757
In the coming weeks, we will spend some time talking about St. Paul, his
travels and letters. I have posted some related videos below for you to
view.
Have a great week!
Tom

Today everyone participated with looking up various readings from the Gospels,
focusing in Parables, Miracles, Disciples, Jerusalem, The Last Supper
and others. At home, you can read sometimes, just looking for Parables,
or Miracles, and compare between the Gospels. We did not have enough
time to do the readings in Blest Are We, so you should do these at home
as well. We are off for next week, so read the Hear and Belive pages
from chapters 17, 18, 19 & 20. We will do the Unit 5 review when you
return.
We are also going to spend a little time studying Da Vinci's Last Supper from
Milan. Next time in class you will prepare two paragraphs with your
thoughts and observations about the painting. The basics are ok to cover
(who, what, where, when, why, whom) and you can also comment on the
picture details, lighting, seating, conversations, colors, etc.
Remember, similar to when reading from the Bible, when looking at the
painting, we are interested to know what the painter was saying to the
audiance. Have fun in your writing assignment. We will review everyone's
work in class.
There are many reproductions of the acual painting from Milan. Here are some
examples:
Welcome back to everyone! We are off to a great start this new year of 2012.
Just this last Sunday we worked on Blest Are We chapter readings, review
questions and quizes for chapters 9-10-11-12. For those of you who were
not able to attend, please do your own review at home so you are keeping
up.
Over the holidays, you were reading from the New Testament, and we did some
previews of the Gospels. We are going to go back to the Old Testament to
spend some time with the Prophets: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel,
Hosea, Joel, Amos, Jonah, Malachi, Obadiah, and others.
Here are some new videos for you to take a look at. See everyone on Sunday.
