Dear Parents and Student,

Welcome back to school and to my classroom. I’m looking forward to being
your math teacher this year. We will have a great year when we follow the
following rules and requirements.

1.	Show respect for others and yourself
2.	Respect each others property
3.	Treat others as you want to be treated
4.	No put downs.

I will work with the student first to solve the problem. If we are unable to
resolve the problem then I will contact the parent. The following
consequences will occur for not following these rules.

1.	Warning
2.	Warning plus counseling
3.	Detention plus parent contact
4.	Refer to office.

The following materials will be required of the student. It is their
responsibility to have these items with them each day of class unless
instructed otherwise by me.

1.	3 ring binder( for notes and homework)
2.	8 x 10 ½ binder paper(not Spiral)
3.	3 no.2 pencils(sharpen before class)
4.	Good eraser not on pencil
5.	2 black ink pens
6.	Composition Book
7.	White Board Pens

Homework is a practice of skills and concepts learned in class. Like
everything else in life, if you practice what you learn you become better at
it, the same applies to homework so you may expect homework 4 nights a week.
Homework is due the day after it is assigned unless otherwise instructed.
The following needs to be on all papers turned in.

1.	Name
2.	Date
3.	Assignment(chapter-lesson)
4.	Period and Table #
5.	Work done in pencil
6.	Show all work on paper
7.	Assignment is neat and readable
Late work will receive ½ credit. Papers without headings will be thrown
away. It is the student’s responsibility to make up work from absences and
to find out what was missed.

Quizzes and Tests will be given on a regular basis. Tests will be announced
prior and quizzes may or may not be previously announced.

Students are expected to do their own work. Those who don’t will be dealt
with as the Student Handbook states. I expect students to do their best in
class and have found that those who do their own work are rewarded for their
effort.

Grades are based on an accumulation of points earned on homework, quizzes,
and tests. Homework is 40%, Quizzes are 20%, and Tests are 40% of the grade
total for the class. I may on occasion give extra credit for something
special, but don’t give extra credit to brings grades up. My grading scale
is as follows:

  A 90-100%
  B 80-89%
  C 70-79%
  D 60-69%
  F 0-59%

Citizenship is based on attendance, tardiness, class participation, and
demonstrating respect for each member of the class and staff. This makes our
learning environment a safe place where each student is accorded optimal
learning time and space.

If you have any questions or concerns and would like to speak with me about
your student’s progress, please call me at Salida Middle School at 545-1633
and ask to speak with me or leave a message. I will try to return your call
as soon as possible. You may also reach me at lhill@salida.k12.ca.us. I post
information and homework on my web site which can be reached through
www.salidamiddleschool.com. I look forward to working with your student this
year and sharing in their growth.

Thank you,

Mr. Hill
