Greece is a country of a great interests and diverse cultures,
influenced by its location, at the junction between the East and

Athenian Socrates (469-399 BCE). Like the Sophists, he rejected
entirely the physical speculations in which his predecessors had
indulged, and made the thoughts and opinions of people his
starting-point; but whereas it was the thoughts of and opinions
of the individual that the Sophists took for the standard,
Socrates questioned people relentlessly about their beliefs. He
tried to find the definitions of the virtues, such as courage and
justice, by cross-examining people who professed to have
knowledge of them. His method of cross-examining people, the
elenchus, did not succeed in establishing what the virtues really
were, however; they simply exposed the ignorance of his
interlocutors."

(510–264 bc). In place of the king, two chief executives were
chosen annually by the whole body of citizens. These were known
as praetors, or leaders, but later received the title of consuls.
The participation of a colleague in the exercise of supreme power
and the limitation of the tenure to one year prevented the chief
magistrate from becoming autocratic. The character of the Senate
was altered by the enrollment of plebeian members, known as
conscripti, and hence the official designation of the senators
thereafter was patres conscripti (conscript fathers). As yet,
only patricians were eligible for the magistracies, and the
discontent of the plebs led to a violent struggle between the two
orders and the gradual removal of the social and political
disabilities under which the plebs had labored.

The history channel is not a good as it used to be. But they do
make history fun. Check out Expedition Africa. What a great way
to learn about a region passively.

The Dark Ages, otherwise known as the Early Middle Ages, was a
period in European history from the collapse of Roman political
control in the West—traditionally set in the 5th century—to about
the late 11th century.

While there are over a million animal-species in existence today, the fact is that hundreds have
gone into extinction. We will only know them through creative creations, but would never be able to
see them. In spite of their extinction one is always interested in learning about them. No wonder
books and movies are made on dinosaurs, or then some extinct species become characters of comic
books.
