Week of September 14-18
A Message for You:
Wow! Four weeks has already gone by and the students are learning so much! Thank you for all of you support by making sure your child does all of the homework and reading each week. Together we will help your student have a successful year!
Important Information:
Round of Applause: A big thank you to Ms. Ayala, Mr. Rosales for helping out in the classroom and to our morning helpers Mrs. Ehrenberger, Mrs. Tran, and Mrs. Flores.
BJ’s Family Night: This Tuesday and Wednesday the PTO is sponsoring family nights at BJ’s in West Covina. If you go, please be sure to bring the flyer so that our school gets a portion of the proceeds from your meal.
SJEA Family Movie Night: On Wednesday, September 30 the PTO will be hosting a family movie night. There will be food, drinks, and treats available to purchase. More information will be coming home soon. Mark your calendars, we hope to see you there!
This Week in Room 708:
Stepping Stones- On Tuesday your child will receive a new white book called, “Families Together”. This book goes along with our current theme, “Those Nearest and Dearest”. Please be sure to use the ideas given on the back cover to better use this book at home. Remember, students are not expected to be able to read these white books on their own – they may be able to memorize some/all of the story, identify familiar words, and discuss the pictures. They may need parent help to read the entire story.
This week we will learn the sounds for the letters “n”, “b”, “o”, and “k”. Students are encouraged to point out these letter shapes in their environment as well as listen for those sounds in the words they use and hear. Encourage your child to think of words that start with these sounds.
Math- In math this week, we will be working on identifying and making shapes. Students will have the opportunity to make a shape collage as well as make shapes using various materials..
Story Tree: During Story Tree this week, we will read and discuss the following books:
Monday – Children’s Choice
Tuesday – The Three Bears
Wednesday – Leola and the Honeybears
Thursday – A Chair for My Mother
Friday – Peter’s Chair
Theme: Those Nearest and Dearest
We are continuing this theme this week. We will continue to talk about developing and maintaining friendships. We will also start focusing on what a family is and on children’s relationships with family members.
For this theme, I am asking for every student to bring in a picture of his/her family. I would like the picture to be no larger then a 5 by 7 the picture will be displayed on a family board throughout the year and will be given back to you in June.
Please send it in by the end of the week if you have not sent one in yet.
Thanks!
