Para Empezar/ Chapter One
You have just met a new foreign exchange student. Tell him your name, spelling your last name. Ask him his name. Tell him where you are from and ask where he is from. Tell him your favorite pastime and ask him what his is.
Chapter Two
Discuss your favorite season with a friend. Tell what things you like to do in for example, the spring, tell when you celebrate your birthday, etc.
Chapter Three
You and a friend are talking on the phone. You are at a party and your friend is at home. Ask how the friend is and why they aren't at the party. The friend asks what's happening at the party and you tell what people are doing. Use the present progressive and the verb estar to describe what people are doing, how they look, etc.
Chapter Four
Describe two of your classmates using comparisons of equality, demonstrative adjectives (this, that etc.) and vocabulary from Chapter Four (clothing and colors). Also talk about their abilities using the verb "poder" as well as their age using "tener."
Chapter Five
Describe your family to a classmate. Ask him about his family. Use comparisons and kinship terminology as well as the verbs ser and estar.
Chapter Six
Ask your partner what he did over the weekend. Discuss what you did. Use several verbs in the preterite.
Chapter Seven
Invite your friend to accompany you somewhere (to the movies, the beach, a concert. etc). Discuss whether he/she is familiar with the place, movie, etc. and make plans for how and when you will go. Use the verbs saber and conocer as well as object pronouns me, te, lo, la etc.
Chapter Eight
Discuss your favorite restaurant with a friend. What do you normally order there? Who goes with you? What foods do you like/not like?
Chapter Nine
Discuss your daily routine with a friend. What time do you get up? What is your schedule like during the day? What do you do in the evenings? When do you go to sleep? How is your life different on weekends?
Chapter Ten
Talk with your partner about what you did during your last vacation. Use a variety of verbs in the preterite as well as negative words.
Chapter Eleven
Talk with your partner about your childhood. What are some things that you used to do when you were little? What kind of food did you eat, what did you watch on television, etc.?
Chapter Twelve
Talk with your partner about your plans for the summer. Use the future tense to describe what you will do and the conditional to describe what you would do with more time, money, etc. e.g. "Yo irĂa a Europa pero no tengo dinero."
