Dear Students and Parents,
Hi! I would like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Christie
Richards, and I am a second year teacher! I will be teaching 7th and 8th
grade English Language Arts, 7th and 8th grade AVID, and 7th grade History at
Santa Ynez Charter School for the 2011-12 school year. I am excited to meet
my new students and take them on a wonderful journey filled with literature,
appreciation and understanding of the English language, enhanced study
skills, note-taking skills, test-taking strategies, and an opportunity for
self-understanding and personal development.
In order to understand who is teaching your student, I would like to
provide you with a brief history of my background. I grew up in Nipomo and
was part of the first graduating class at Nipomo High School. I have played
soccer since the age of seven. I have also participated in drama, track, and
cross-country. I believe students can have a healthy balance between
academics and extra-curricular activities.
I graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with my BA in English and
received my Single-Subject Credential from Cal Poly, SLO as well. During my
time at Cal Poly, I played intramural soccer and was an active member of Chi
Omega(sorority). I did my student teaching at Mesa Middle School and
Atascadero High School. While completing my teaching credential during 2010,
I also substituted throughout the Central Coast.
When I'm not teaching, I enjoy a plethora of activities. I love to run,
hike and exercise. I also enjoy time with friends, riding my quad, cooking,
curling up with a good book or poetry, going to the beach, and spending time
with my family.
I am incredibly excited to meet my wonderful new students and parents,
and to see my old students again! I look forward to meeting and / or getting
reaquainted with students and parents at the 7th and 8th grade orientations.
Please feel free to use that opportunity to meet with me to discuss my
learning and teaching philosophies, classroom procedures, and classroom
expectations. I hope you have had a wonderful and relaxing summer and are
ready to gear up for the upcoming year.
I look forward to meeting you or seeing you again!
Sincerely,
Christie Richards
