About The Teacher

August, 2010

Dear Students and Parents,
My name is John Livingston and I would like to take this opportunity
to introduce myself. I will be teaching 6th Grade at Santa Ynez Valley
Charter School for the 2011-2012 school year. I am very excited to
return for my forth year at Santa Ynez, and look forward to incorporating the
self-contained element to my resume.
To that end, here is some brief information about my educational and
personal background. After 10 years of a successful business career, I
returned to school to prepare myself for what I have found to be my calling:
to contribute to the development of the future through teaching. After
obtaining a B.A. in Liberal Studies at California State University San
Marcos, I continued on to graduate school to obtain my teaching credential.
A native of Southern California, I was born in San Clemente and grew up in
San Diego and Hawaii. After high school, I attended the University of
Nebraska for 2 yrs on an athletic scholarship where I had the wonderful
opportunity to play on the 1994 NCAA National Championship Football team.
I moved to the Central Coast (Santa Barbara) from San Diego. Previously, I
taught 6th grade History, Physical Education and Art for two years at San
Elijo Middle School. My move to the Central Coast has been a part of my
personal evolution and the development of family ties in this area. Over the
summer, our blessed little one,Isabella Neda Livingston turned 1, (Wow how
fast a year goes by), and I am the happiest father in the world.
I look forward to extending a warm and joyous welcome and to meeting
both the students and their parents during the 6th grade orientation and
welcome that opportunity to discuss my philosophies of learning and teaching
and, more importantly, to meet all of you as we prepare for the 2011-12 school
year. Hoping you've all had a wonderful and restful summer. Students, I
encourage you to read every chance you have. With the right books, it’s
always fun and you learn a lot that will help in school and in life. If you
have any questions, please feel free to contact me at
jlivingston@syvcs.org

Sincerely,

John Livingston (Mr. L)
